A Major Project for The Federal Government!Posted by Matt - August 10, 2007 on 3:39 pm | In Programming Languages | No CommentsI have been working now for a week on a major Web Design and Development project with the V.A. Please be sure to give us a little more notice than usual if you have a web development project you would like us to complete. This full time project for the Federal Government is expected to last approximately 6 months. My major responsibilities involve Coldfusion development, helping with meeting accessibility standards, and error checking-fixing problems with their web site. The Coldfusion development is challenging… but fun! If yo have any questions about WCZone please feel free to call, write, or send a homing pigeon… we would be happy to help you! WebAssist Software - WOW!Posted by Matt - August 5, 2007 on 3:38 pm | In Database's, Programming Languages | No CommentsI wanted to give a brief review of some web development software I purchased recently from “WebAssist.com I use a lot of different Dreamweaver extensions and web development software on a frequent basis. I must admit though that Webassist is really a step above most of them. Their extensions are much easier to use to help quickly build dynamic websites than Interakt and some others in the past were. These extensions allow us to develop database searches, connectivity and web pages in a much shorter time than previously (and the less time it takes to complete a project… the more projects can be completed… which means we can charge less per project!). If you have any web development or web design needs… give us a call or fill out our web form. We would be happy to let you know what your project would cost to complete. Matthew
New Replacement for Microsoft FrontPage!Posted by Matt - December 1, 2006 on 1:03 pm | In Programming Languages, Web Design, XHTML and CSS | No CommentsThere are many different web design software packages that can be used to develop websites. I have used or at least tried almost all of them. One that I have used, but always felt it lacked some necessary “professional” features was Microsoft Frontpage 2003. Microsoft has replaced Frontpage…. with a much better product! Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007Today is the first day I have been able to experiment with and test out the features of Sharepoint Designer 2007… but it seems to fix many of the issues of Frontpage.
How does it compare to the latest version of Dreamweaver 8? Which product I would use depends upon two main issues:
Since Microsoft produced Sharepoint Designer, they of course want to promote their own development languages and technologies - which include of course the .net/asp applications and technologies. If you need to develop a website for a Microsoft Server using .net…. it is much easier to use Sharepoint Designer rather than Dreamweaver 8. Since the majority of web servers on the Internet are Linux based (and can’t use .net/asp applications) you will be more limited in many circumstances. Dreamweaver has much better PHP support (especially with Interakt extensions) and PHP is available on almost all webhosting packages. Sharepoint Designer 2007 also does not have the new “ribbon” that the other new Office products have, but it seems fairly intuitive to use. Well…. I need to go play with my new toy… and learn some more .net/asp while I’m at it! Matthew
